Planning Your PR Career for 2025!

The-PR-Chick-2025-Planning

Hey there,

It’s been a minute since I graced your presence with a blog post. The hustle and bustle of life as a PR consultant got to me, and I didn’t keep up with all my obligations. That’s changing in 2025 and I will be giving you a step-by-step guide on how I am planning my PR career for 2025.

Step 1: Goal-setting

All the good books, mentors, and world leaders expound on how important goal-setting is, but sometimes, we don’t all take it as seriously as we should. For 2025, I mapped out some goals that I would like to achieve, I first started with a life audit on how 2024 was, this took me a day to complete as I had to fill in what I had achieved at the different phases in my life. Find the guide on how to conduct a life audit here. After that, I listed 2 goals per focus area of my life. This meant that I set financial goals, career goals, self-development goals, etc., that were important to my growth in 2025, and I outlined steps to achieve them.

Step 2: Create a document to map out your career

This is closely related to step one because the basic idea of step one is to write things down. However, the distinction that I’d like to draw is in creating a special document or book for the plans that you have made. For me, I like to use an Excel sheet that clearly states what my yearly goals, monthly goals, weekly, and daily goals are. This helps me to map out a strategy on how I plan to achieve each task. It also helps me to clearly see the milestones that I have achieved and my areas of improvement. These and more are some of the ways of planning your PR career for 2025.

Step 3: Take self-development more seriously

I’m emphasizing this bit because it’s something that I have done over the years, but I haven’t tracked the progress or the outcomes of the self-development courses that I have taken. Now, I know that as PR professionals, we all try to learn things regularly to boost our skills and upgrade our knowledge base. However, how often do we track what we are learning and do we actually implement them in our daily lives? That is something I have been asking myself of late. How many courses have I taken, and how relevant are they to my professed career path? Are they in line with my vision for myself, or am I just doing them because its trendy? These are some questions you may want to ask yourself as well to be sure you’re on the right track.

Step 4: Document your progress

I briefly highlighted it in a previous step, but we should deliberately track our progress more seriously as PR professionals this year! 2025 is our year to break out of our shells and be the best versions of ourselves. So why don’t you start now by creating a tracker to document all your wins, no matter how small?

2025 is a year of intentionality for me. I want to be more intentional about things that are important to my career and growth. How about you? What are your plans for 2025 in your PR or Marketing career? You can read more on goal setting in my previous post.

I hope you enjoyed reading this far. Thank you! Join me monthly on my journey into the PR world, where I discuss challenges, tips, pointers, and wins in the PR career space. See you soon!

  1. Nice, but what about those who can’t use excel and maybe think that they are a bit restricted in making so many plans especially the financial ones at this stage in their life?
How do one make relationship plans for the year? Like to cultivate healthy communication with the relationships you have especially with family and friends?

    1. For people who cannot use Excel, try Microsoft Word or Google Docs if you need to use a computer. Or you could even go old-fashioned and write in a good old book with a pen or pencil. The important thing is to write down your ideas and thoughts. Gain clarity through writing!

For relationships, you can also write that down and practice being intentional. You could decide to start creating allotted time to call family members, or you could decide to put up more boundaries by identifying people who are draining you. Once you write down all your plans and thoughts, it helps you to identify the next steps to take to achieve them.
